Dominic Barnes non executive director
Dr Barnes was appointed to The Doctors’ Health Fund Board on 1 July 2009. He is the Chairman of the Marketing and Business Development Committee. Dr Barnes is a Queensland University medical graduate. He worked for more than 10 years as a full time vocationally registered general practitioner in Queensland and then in part time general practice /indigenous health in New South Wales while pursuing a pharmaceutical career. Dr Barnes is currently vice-president and general manager of the Australian subsidiary of Shire plc, a global biopharmaceutical company specialising in treatments for rare genetic diseases where there are few or no therapeutic options. He has held senior management positions with responsibility for medical, scientific and regulatory affairs and health economics with a number of pharmaceutical companies. He was formerly a member of a number of committees, including Medicines Australia Health Policy Development Strategic Committee, Drug Information Association Australia’s Steering Committee, University of NSW Medical School’s Therapeutics Committee and the Medicines Australia Biotechnology Interest Group. He is currently the Medicines Australia representative on the Commonwealth Department of Health Indigenous Access to the PBS Expert Advisory Panel. |
