The year has only just begun, but we have been busy supporting a number of events that provide opportunities to engage with the medical community, particularly interns and young doctors. These events play an important role in how we support the medical profession and connect with the community.
In January, Doctors’ Health Fund and Avant Mutual were represented at 42 hospital Intern and Registrar Orientation Weeks around the country. Orientation events are crucial experiences for interns and doctors-in-training; there they are provided with invaluable education, advice and tools to assist them with the rigorous program that lies ahead.
In supporting these events, we can chat with doctors attending and gain a better understanding of the things that keep them up at night, such as the challenges of demanding workplace culture; maintaining work/life balance and good mental health, and deciding between general medicine and a specialty.
Our data shows that more than 14 per cent of Doctors’ Health Fund members are made up of interns and doctors in training, and this number is growing. Sponsoring events like Orientation Week ensures that we are on the frontline of key issues in the medical community so we can provide the best possible service to our membership.
