We met with one of our oldest members, Dr Norman Hing, who celebrated his 100th birthday on 18 March 2018.

Dr Hing has been a member of Doctors’ Health Fund since its foundation in 1977, and during his long career as a GP in Sydney’s Darlinghurst, had seen many developments in medicine. Our CEO, Peter Aroney commented, “Norman embodies the fundamental purpose of our Fund; a community that has come together to provide peace of mind when a health incident impacts their life or the lives of their family. We have many long-standing members like Norman who have formed the foundation of our Fund. For all of us at Doctors’ Health Fund, it's relationships like these that reinforce our sense of purpose and the importance of fulfilling our promise to members as best we can.

In this interview, Dr Hing talks to us about his life experiences, starting at the inner city Fort St Public School, through to Sydney University and then onto his GP practice in the heart of what was Sydney’s premier entertainment precinct of Kings Cross.

Dr Hing has seen the introduction of what we now consider the most basic medical treatments; such as antibiotics, penicillin and modern anaesthetics.
