Give Back FAQs
This is our next and final giveback to return the last of the premium that was not claimed during periods of lockdown and from social distancing restrictions. We are delivering on our promise to return claims savings to members and a cash back payment is the most equitable way for us to do this.
Doctors’ Health Fund is returning an additional $8 million in COVID claim savings to eligible members, bringing the total amount returned since the pandemic began to over $24 million.
The payment will be made by direct credit (that is the bank account we pay your claims benefits into) or by cheque, depending on the payment method you have nominated for your policy. If we don’t have a direct credit account for you or your details are incorrect and the payment fails, we will be sending a cheque.
When paid by direct credit, you can expect to receive your payment by 17 November. We will send you a claims remittance statement once your cash back has been processed. The exact day that your payment reaches your account could vary based on your bank. When paid by cheque, please expect delays in receiving your payment.
Once your giveback has been processed, you will receive a remittance that looks like a communication you would receive when we pay a claim benefit with subject line or title ‘Your claim has been paid’. Please note this is the receipt from your COVID cashback payment and will include this in the description of your remittance.
The giveback will be paid to active and suspended members at 30 June 2023 who have held coverage for a minimum of 90 days between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2023. Members who meet this criteria but have terminated their policy since 1 July 2023 will still receive a payment.

The cash back amounts have been calculated proportionally across the membership based on the amount of premium paid during the period of 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2023 with the payments ranging between $50 and $605. Unfortunately not, we are only returning savings as a cash back payment via direct credit or cheque.
No, the give back is paid at a policy level, not individual person level.
A cheque will be sent if we do not have your credit account details or the direct credit payment fails. Please expect longer processing times for cheques.
Our premium increases are carefully calculated to ensure premiums cover the expected future claims of all members. Premiums are always set at the minimum required to cover health care costs and to keep us sustainable.
These cash back payments are from past premium that was not claimed as expected. We could only give back once claims savings were more certain. Returning surplus premium through these payments is the most efficient and equitable way to give back to members.
No. The give back payments are in lieu of benefits members could have claimed so it won’t impact on the rebate (for those who claim it).
As always, its best to talk to your tax agent if you have any questions.
You will still receive a payment if you meet the eligibility criteria but your policy is currently in arrears or has been suspended or terminated since 1 July 2023.
You are eligible for the cash back payment as you were a policyholder with Doctors’ Health Fund for a minimum of 90 days between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2023. Your give back will be paid using the payment method nominated for your policy while you were a member with us.
