Who is eligible for Lite Extras Cover?

Lite Extras is exclusively available those that hold a current Intern/RMO1 Indemnity Insurance Policy with Avant Insurance Limited.

When does my cover start?

We will create your Lite Extras policy and send you an email confirming your policy details, once we receive confirmation from Avant that your membership has been processed, this may take up to 5 business days.

When does my cover end?

Unless terminated earlier, your policy will end when you are no longer eligible to hold the policy, which will likely be at 11:59pm on the 31st of December of your Intern year (PGY1).

Do I need to cancel my existing Extras policy?

No, you do not need to cancel your existing Extras policy that you hold either on your own or on your parents policy. However, you should only claim under one policy for each service.

What if I am already a member with Doctors’ Health Fund?

If you are an existing Doctors’ Health Fund member you are eligible to receive a premium credit to the value of Lite Extras Cover ($180), which will be applied once Doctors’ Health Fund receive confirmation from Avant that you have renewed/joined on an Intern/RMO1 policy.

What happens if I am no longer a member of Avant?

Lite Extras Cover is an exclusive product only available to Avant members who hold an Intern/RMO1 policy. If you are no longer a member of Avant your Extras Cover with Doctors’ Health Fund will end.

What if i’d also like Hospital cover?

Can I add my partner/spouse to my Lite Extras policy?

Lite Extras is only available as a Single policy.

How do I make a claim?

There are 2 ways to claim on Extras benefits;

  • Using your Membership Card. You can use your Member Card to process on the spot claims at your chosen provider using HICAPS. You only pay the difference between the provider’s fee and your Doctors’ Health Fund benefit.
  • Using our claims app. You can pay for the service up front and easily submit a claim using our claims app, which you can download at the Apple Store or Google Play. Benefits are paid directly into your nominated account.
Am I restricted with which providers I can use to claim benefits under Lite Extras Cover?

No, at Doctors’ Health Fund we believe in freedom of choice, so we have no restricted provider networks for any of the services you are covered for.

Are there waiting periods?

There are no waiting periods applied to the benefits on Lite Extras Cover, so you can start claiming as soon as you receive your Welcome Email.

Do I avoid paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge if I have Lite Extras Cover?

No, to avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge you will need to have the right level of hospital cover. As Lite Extras is only designed to cover extras treatment, as with all other extras only products, it will not help you avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge.

Do my limits reset at the end of the year?

This product has policy limits rather than annual limits, meaning that they may run for longer than 12 months (if the member joins Avant early). Limits will run from when they join to the end of 31 December 2021 (and will not reset at the end of this year).

I don’t have Australian citizenship or Permanent Residency, am I eligible for Lite Extras Cover?

You must be an Australian citizenship or Permanent Resident to be eligible for Lite Extra Cover.
