Pregnancy hospital cover ensures the costs associated with the delivery of your baby are covered if you choose to be a private patient.
But as we know, there are many stages that come with planning for a baby, pregnancy and parenthood. To help support you through this journey, one of our member benefits, Nourish Baby, provides online antenatal and early parenting courses and classes that is complimentary with any hospital cover.
Some of our members have already experienced the benefits of Nourish Baby as an easy to use and informative pregnancy and early parenting tool.
If you are new to this benefit or have been considering signing up, we answer some common questions about the program:
What is Nourish Baby?
Nourish Baby is an online platform that provides antenatal and early parenting classes and courses. It has been designed to build confidence and knowledge in parenting, through evidence-based education, engaging videos and interactive learning activities that can be completed on your device at any time.
Who is Nourish Baby suitable for?
Nourish Baby has content that caters for those who are planning for a baby, are pregnant, have a baby or have a toddler up to the age of three. You can register to use Nourish Baby at any of these stages.
What topics does Nourish Baby cover?
The program has an extensive range of topics that are covered as part of each stage. Some of these include childbirth education, pregnancy health and fitness, feeding and emotional health and wellbeing.
Who facilitates the content?
All course content is created and facilitated by qualified antenatal and early parenting health professionals. Courses are accredited by the Childbirth and Parenting Educators of Australia and the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards. They are also recommended by COPE: Centre of Perinatal Excellence.
Every parenting journey is unique and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach. It is important to note that these programs are to complement the medical advice you are receiving from your obstetrician or midwife.
How long do I have access for?
You will maintain access to Nourish Baby for as long as you are a Doctors’ Health Fund member. The program has no deadlines so once you are signed up you can complete the content at your own pace and can refer to it even once you’ve finished the modules, provided you’re still a Doctors’ Health Fund member.
Do I need to pay extra for Nourish Baby and how do I sign up?
If you are a Doctors’ Health Fund member with hospital cover, registration to Nourish Baby comes at no added cost. This includes if you are covered by Smart Starter Bronze Plus. However, it is important to note that Smart Starter Bronze Plus does not include pregnancy hospital cover. You will need to upgrade and serve relevant waiting periods before the birth of your baby if you are intending to be privately covered for your delivery. Please contact our Member Services team for more information on upgrading.
