2023 average premium increases announced

The Minister for Health and Aged Care, the Hon Mark Butler, has announced the average premium increases for private health insurers for 2023.
Of the 35 health funds, Doctors’ Health Fund has recorded one of the lowest average increases and our lowest in 21 years. It’s the fourth consecutive year of an industry average increase below 3%, with health funds delivering more affordable healthcare in a period of high inflation.
As part of Avant Mutual, we’re proud of how we’ve supported members during COVID with cash backs and premium deferrals, expanded benefits and keeping premium increases as low as possible over the last three years.
During a period dominated by challenges, uncertainty and change, our members have been our priority. In line with our member ethos, it has been important for us to provide various measures of support, while also maintaining a sustainable health fund with quality products and exceptional member experience.
We continue to closely monitor the impact COVID is having on claims and will return any savings to members. We remain committed to our ongoing promise to not profit from the pandemic.
Members will be notified of their increase soon, with any changes to apply from 1 April 2023.
