Created exclusively for the medical community, Doctors’ Health Fund is dedicated to you and to the profession, offering better cover, better service and better value. We are pleased to provide you with an overview of enhancements to our covers, service and advocacy activities over the 2015-16 financial year (FY16).

Service excellence

We have every reason to be proud of our service ethic at Doctor’s Health Fund – and it’s showing results. Service excellence is just one of the reasons over 95% of our members decided to renew with us. In FY16:

  • 96% of calls were answered within 30 seconds

  • 95% of extras claims were processed within 1–2 days

  • 95% of our members are satisfied, according to our annual survey

  • 78% increase in number of members using our app to make claims

Better cover

We are always looking to enhance our products and services in ways that align with doctors’ needs. In FY16 we:

  • increased some benefits on our extras covers, for example, Total Extras now covers all general dental check-ups at 100% of the cost

  • extended the types of services we cover, for example, members can now claim exercise physiology and weight loss programs where supported by their doctor under Total Extras cover

  • paid more medical services with no gap (compared to the industry average)

  • contained premium increases below the industry average

  • launched two targeted health support programs – ‘Healthy Weight For Life’ to assist members with osteoarthritis and ‘Rehab in the Home’

Supporting the profession

As the only health fund owned by doctors, we have a unique perspective on how private health insurance issues affect doctors.

In FY16 we acted as a voice for the medical profession by:

  • publishing our CEO’s opinion pieces on key issues such as the Medicare freeze, quality and safety issues in hospitals, and junk policies, in several medical publications

  • working with professional bodies including education sessions with the NSW and Queensland branches of the Australian Medical Association

  • producing a checklist for doctors that helps their patients understand their health insurance needs and policy entitlements

  • advocating for members in the Federal Government consultation process on private health insurance reform.

More medical professionals are making the switch

Our approach is to responsibly grow membership and we have been gaining members at well above the industry average. As a demonstration of our comparative value, more than 73% of our new members in FY16 switched to us from other health funds. Peter Aroney, CEO of Doctors’ Health Fund says “The media spotlight on private health insurance has encouraged Australians to assess the alternatives. We are proud that more doctors are turning to us, both as a trusted provider of quality health cover, and as a professional ally, representing doctors’ interests at every opportunity.”
