    • medical radiation (including medical radiation practitioners, diagnostic radiographers, medical imaging technologists, radiographers, nuclear medicine scientists, nuclear medicine technologists or radiation therapists.
  • Students studying to become a medical practitioner or eligible health practitioner.
  • Employees of a medical practitioner or eligible health practitioner, such as practice managers and receptionists.
  • Employees of any member associations for medical practitioners or eligible health practitioners, such as the AMAs.
  • Families of eligible members, which includes parents, children, grandchildren, spouse/partner, sibling or niece/nephew.

Our health fund was created by doctors for doctors, and we have grown over the years to include many members of the medical and health community. At this stage, our eligibility doesn't extend to all health professionals, common examples being podiatrists, pharmacists, and speech therapists. However, we review this eligibility annually and may extend into additional categories in the future. If your profession is not listed, you may still be eligible to join if you work for a medical or health practitioner who is.

Not sure if you're eligible? Call us on 1800 226 126 and we'll help you.

Once you’ve been a member of Doctors’ Health Fund, you can remain a member even if your occupation or relationship status changes.

To be eligible for cover with Doctors’ Health Fund, you are required to be either:

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident with full access to Medicare benefits
  • a temporary resident in the process of applying for permanent residency, and issued with a blue interim Medicare card
  • a New Zealand citizen with full access to Medicare benefits.
  • an overseas visitor residing in Australia. Find out more about Overseas Visitors Health Cover for workers.

Once you have full access to Medicare benefits and if you are over 30 years old, you have 12 months to purchase standard Australian hospital insurance. Otherwise, you may be affected by the Australian Government lifetime health cover loading. The loading only applies to hospital cover, not extras cover.
